How to Rotate a PDF and Save It Facing the Right Way
Scanned papers and phone scans often end up sideways or upside down. Turning the page on your screen helps only until you close the file. To fix it for good, you need to rotate the PDF and save the new version. Here is how to do it in a minute.
Step by step: rotate a PDF
- Open the Rotate PDF tool.
- Choose your PDF file.
- Select how far to turn it: 90 degrees clockwise, 180 degrees, or 90 degrees counter-clockwise.
- Press Run and download the rotated PDF.
- Open it once to check that the pages face the right way.
Which option should I choose?
- Page lies on its side with the top at the left: turn it 90 degrees clockwise.
- Page lies on its side with the top at the right: turn it 90 degrees counter-clockwise.
- Page is upside down: choose 180 degrees.
If you pick the wrong one, just run the tool again on the new file. Two clockwise turns of 90 degrees make 180 degrees.
Important: it rotates every page
This tool turns all pages of the PDF by the amount you choose. If only one or two pages are sideways, there is an easy way around it:
- Use Split PDF in range mode to pull out the sideways pages into their own file.
- Rotate that file.
- Combine everything again with Merge PDF, and fix the order with Reorder PDF Pages if needed.
Does rotating hurt quality?
No. Only the page rotation setting changes. Text and images are not recompressed, so the file looks the same, just turned.
Is it safe?
Yes. The file is processed in your own browser and is not uploaded to our servers.
