How to Edit a PDF for Free (Add Text, Images and White-Out)
PDFs are made to look the same everywhere, which also makes them feel hard to change. But for most everyday jobs, like adding your name, fixing a date, covering a mistake or adding a logo, you do not need expensive software. Here is how to do each one for free.
Add text anywhere
- Open Edit PDF and choose your PDF.
- Press Add text and type. Pick the size and colour at the top.
- Drag the text by its small round handle to the right spot. Use the arrows to edit other pages.
- Press Edit PDF and download your file.
You can also type in Urdu, Arabic or Hindi. That text is added as a sharp image so it looks right on every device.
Change existing text (white-out and retype)
You cannot click into the original words of most PDFs. Do what people do on paper: cover and rewrite.
- Press White-out box, drag it over the old text and resize it with the corner square.
- Press Add text and type the new words on top.
Important: a white-out box only covers text. The old words can still be found and copied from the file. To remove private details for good, use Redact PDF instead.
Add a logo, stamp or photo
Press Add image, choose a picture, then drag it into place and resize it from the corner. PNG images with a transparent background look best for logos and stamps.
Other edits, the easy way
- Form with boxes? Type straight into them with Fill PDF Form.

- Pages in the wrong order, sideways or extra? Fix them with Organize PDF.
- Edges or margins to remove? Use Crop PDF.
- Need to rewrite a lot of text? Copy it into Word with PDF to Word, edit there, then save as PDF again.
Frequently asked questions
Is it free to edit a PDF?
Yes. All these tools are free, need no account and add no watermark.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. Editing happens in your browser, so your file stays on your device.
Can I edit a scanned PDF?
Yes. You can add text, white-out and images on top of a scan. To copy or search its text, run it through OCR PDF first.
Can I edit a PDF on my phone?
Yes. Every tool works in your phone's browser on Android and iPhone.
Why can I not click on the original text?
Most PDFs store text as fixed positions, not as an editable document. Cover and retype small changes, or convert to Word for big rewrites.
